1) MAD ZACH – ‘TRUNK JUNK’ [ALPHA PUP]
Berlin-based experimental bass producer Mad Zach just dropped a four track EP, Out of Body on Alpha Pup Records. The closing cut “Trunk Junk” is a hypnotic bass track with elements of tribal drumming, a murky bassline, and spaced out psychedelic grooves. This one knocks hard.
2) UM.. ‘NOTHING TO SAY” [DEADBEATS]
um.. is the Portland based duo of Ben Bruce and Dylan Gold. Their latest track “nothing to say” on Deadbeats Records swirls around stuttering beats, and wavy production resulting in mind-bending affects. In just under three minutes the tune leaves you mesmerized and wanting more.
3) PEEKABOO – ‘ALIENS’ [WAKAAN]
Bass music newcomer PEEKABOO drops a smoking four track EP, Imposters, on freeform bass imprint Wakkan. The leadoff track “Aliens” sets the tone of the release with a pulsing space alarm beeping over swirling basslines and sci-fi samples. Keep an eye or should we say ear out for this rising producer.
4) CHAMPAGNE DRIP – ‘DECKARD’ [BASSRUSH]
Hot on the heels of releases from Wakaan and Deadbeats, Champagne Drip is back with another pair of bass music bangers on his latest Offworld EP (Bassrush Records). “Deckard” hits you in the chest with rattling bass punches combined with ambient textures, dubstep kicks, snares and wobbles, bringing you a well-rounded tune that is both rough and smooth.

5) LSDREAM – ‘OBLIVION’ [WAKAAN]
Yes a second Wakaan release to highlight in May. Liquid Stranger’s label is definitely on a roll. LSDREAM is the sonic brainchild of music producer Brillz. His debut album Voyager, takes his sounds on the murkiest edges of the electronic spectrum, yet maintain a genre fluidity that spills over in to the realms of trap, dubstep, glitch and beyond. The first track “Oblivion” is a perfect example of the multidimensional vision the LSDREAM project embodies.
6) RAL – ‘SIMPLE THINGS’ [LOWTEMP]
RAL is the stage name of Jesus Martinez, a fresh producer hailing from Seville, Spain and currently residing in Manchester. Formerly of the electronic duo Dubsidia, RAL has branched off as a solo project exploring the depth of future bass and beats. The title track to his debut EP on Lowtemp flows over washed out synths and floating bass.
7) RP BOO ‘BACK FROM THE FUTURE’ [PLANET MU]
RP Boo is a Chicago footwork producer whose built a cult following through white labels and self-released mixtapes until his two LPs of archival material Legacy, and Fingers, Bank Pads & Shoe Prints introduced broader audiences to his sonic tapestry. I’ll Tell You What! forthcoming on Planet Mu in June is the next step in Boo’s mission to rid his mind of everything it contains, and marks the first time he’s released an album of contemporary material shortly after creating it. “Back From The Future” is an infectious footwork tune with catchy vocals and shuffling beats and humming basslines.
8) SHIFT K3Y – ‘DON’T LOOK BACK’ [NIGHT BASS]
London producer, singer, songwriter, and DJ, Shift K3Y just released his debut EP on the Night Bass imprint entitled Bite. The three-track EP is filled with bass heavy-house music, where the producer flexes a now well-earned muscle commanding the dance floor. The new release includes his viral single “Don’t Look Back,” the garage-tinged bouncer, that features vocals from the man himself, which is getting major support from radio and club DJs worldwide.
9) TRDV – ‘DUES PAID’ [TOP BILLIN MUSIC]
TRDV comes correct on his Dues Paid EP (Top Billin Music), with four UK garage tracks that give nod to the past, but with the spirit of the future. The title track sounds like it was inspired by pirate radio waves and dubplate culture, fueled with chipped up vocals and swinging beats.
10) DOMMIX – ‘BASS BUMP’ [BINGO BASS]
Dommix makes his debut on Bingo Bass with his new track “Bass Bump.” After putting out official remixes on behalf of bass music producer Flux Pavilion and electro-pop up-and-comers Little Destroyer, the young artist flexes his production skills on DJ Zinc’s popular label with “Bass Bump.” The tune builds with synth stabs before dropping into a ping pong of bass squelches on top of bouncing kicks and snares.
11) ONEMIND – “PIANO, VOCAL, DRUM” [METALHEADZ]
The mighty Metalheadz label announces its next full length album from the duo OneMind. Their self-titled album that was released this month, melds elements of jungle, dub, and electronica. Their lead single, “Piano, Vocal, Drum” is a rough and soulful drum & bass cut radiating the Metalheadz spirit throughout.
12) MACKY GEE x PHANTASY x DJ FRESH – CIVILIZATION [BREAKBEAT KAOS]
Breakbeat Kaos celebrates its 15 year anniversary as a drum & bass label in 2018. Founded by DJ Fresh and Adam F the BBK imprint has always been at the forefront of d&b music. Their latest release enlists kings of the jump-up Macky Gee and Phantasy to collaborate on this return release. “Civilization” with its big bass drop, rolling breaks, and grit are sure to be an anthem in raves and clubs throughout the summer.
13) BOP ‘UNTITLED PATTERN 61’ [MED SCHOOL]
Bop is a producer known for his signature microfunk dub-techno, jungle music. He just dropped four new tracks for the second volume of his ‘Untitled Pattern’ EP series for Med School. The glitchy 8-bit stepper ‘Untitled Pattern 61’ lays the foundation of this EP giving a launchpad for the intrepid sounds we’ve come to expect from Bop, keeping it both heady and funky.
14) ANNIX – ‘POWER CHORDS’ FEAT. DJ HYPE & EKSMAN [PLAYAZ RECORDINGS]
Annix are back on Playaz Recordings for another high octane drum & bass release with their Power Chords EP. The title track of the four song set guest stars label boss-man DJ Hype and Eksman and features a furious cutting bassline and slapping drums.
15) DRUMSOUND & BASSLINE SMITH – ‘THE HUSTLER’ [TECHNIQUE]
Summer is around the corner and the good folks at Technique Recordings deliver a huge release of 35 drum & bass tracks on their Technique Summer 2018 album. Label bosses Drumsound & Bassline Smith have a few choice cuts on the album including the militant jazz-tech roller “The Hustler,” which is already getting support from tastemakers on the dancefloors and airwaves.”
